The Greater Glens Falls
Central Labor Council

Welcome-x9b.GIFAs our Website grows and improves, we'll use it to get the word out on Union activity in our area, our state, and our country, and we hope it will help to create a better sense of community among our members.   It is, and will remain, a "Living Document".

Summer will soon be Coming,

with sunny days, swimming - and picnics,
and lots of good healthy work!

Our next Meeting is on Thursday,
June 10th, 2010, at 7:00 PM

as usual, at the
Plumbers' and Pipefitters' Local Union 773 Hall, in Moreau.
at 7:00 PM, June 10th, 2010.

Come and participate!
Volunteer to "man" a Table!

We will be co-hosting a Labor information and Votor-Registration table at several events this Spring and Summer, starting with Whipple City Days in June, on the weekend of the 18th, 19th, and 20th, and need to set up a schedule of volunteers for a few hours each.   'Phone, write, E-Mail, or come to a Meeting for details, and to pick a time to help out.
Labor needs to Get our Political Representatives to Pass responsible Social and Labor Legislation in 2010!

Remember:
the Health Care Reform bill squeaked by and passed, BUT it's still being opposed by those who profit from others misfortunes.   While we need to defend it, House Resolution 676 (House bill: HR676) can still be passed for Single-Payer Health Insurance that is much cheaper than existing insurance, and like Medicare, allows you to choose any Doctor, and the treatments he or she decides you need, without Insurance Company clerks turning you down to save money!
Please write, FAX, and call the offices of  Scott Murphy, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Charles Schumer to thank them for what they've done - AND ask them not to stop yet: their supporters also support HR676, as well as the Right to Organize act.
 Meeting Location Reminder:
The Central Labor Council will be holding most of its regular 2010 Meetings at the Plumbers' and Pipefitters' Local Union 773 Hall at 7:00 PM at 30 Bluebird Road, South Glens Falls - in Moreau -- but continue to check this site for future changes and updates.

Don't forget to reserve the date for our June 10th, 2010 Meeting on Thursday, June 10th, 2010, at the usual time of 7:00 PM

Our Meetings are currently at the Plumbers' and Pipefitters' Local Union 773 Hall at  30 Bluebird Road, South Glens Falls - in Moreau, but continue to check the Directions page for new maps and more info on  our future meeting places.

Our Meetings concentrate on our own local area plans as well as the wider "Up-State" plans from CDALF, and the State-wide activities of our NYS AFL-CIO   We also support and encourage Labor-friendly government locally, state-wide, and nationally.   We coordinate with and help - and are helped by - other pro-Labor organizations such as the Solidarity Committee, and the Labor-Religion Coalition  Come talk with other Unions' Delegates who have already "been there".

Labor still has a lot of non-union workplaces to Organize -- and a lot of workers who would like to be Unionized, but are afraid of losing their jobs if they try to exercise their rights.  We also have other issues that affect the welfare of all workers, and even though the badly cut-down Health Care reform bill has passed, we still need a Universal Health Care bill, which will also ease the pressure on employers to shift insurance costs to their workers in order to compete with other countries that already have it -- better health care at lower cost for everyone.

All Union Locals can and should have full representation in Labor Councils regardless of other affiliation, so if you have any questions, come and ask.

Do plan to attend our Meetings and forums, and since we welcome extra visitors to our Meetings from Labor even if they are not voting Delegates, please feel free to bring along some of your other Members as well.
